KUALA LUMPUR: The Registrar of Societies (ROS) has been urged to take immediate action to address the ongoing crisis within Perikatan Nasional.
Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz alleged that PAS had been manipulating Perikatan to serve its own political interests, including taking unilateral actions that infringed on the rights of other component parties and allegedly contravened the coalition constitution.
"The key issue is the need for the ROS to intervene urgently to ensure that PAS does not arbitrarily use Perikatan to make unilateral decisions that deny the rights of any component party or breach the coalition's constitution.
"We want decisions by the Perikatan Supreme Council to be made constitutionally through proper meetings, rather than through interference by the PAS president (Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang),” he told Bernama on Sunday (Aug 9).
Last Friday (Aug 7), media reports quoted Abdul Hadi as saying that Bersatu had automatically ceased to be a Perikatan member following the party's intention to form a new coalition.
However, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali rejected the claim, saying the party remains a legitimate Perikatan member as there is no provision in the coalition's constitution for the automatic termination of a component party's membership.
Mohamed Azmin also stressed that the PAS president has neither the authority nor veto power to determine Bersatu's status within Perikatan.
Tun Faisal said Perikatan should not be managed at the behest of any single party, but should instead be administered fairly, transparently, and with integrity in accordance with the coalition's constitution. — Bernama
