YALA: A Malaysian man was killed while another was seriously injured after the motorcycle they were riding was involved in an accident in the Bannang Sareng area, Mueang Yala district, on Saturday (Aug 8) afternoon.
Mueang Yala police chief Col Chatchai Sakdee said preliminary investigations found that the victim lost control of the motorcycle before crashing into an electricity pole.
"The 20-year-old pillion rider from Perlis died at the scene from severe head injuries, while the 22-year-old rider from Kuala Kedah, Kedah, was seriously injured,” he said when contacted on Sunday (Aug 9).
Chatchai said the injured victim is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Yala Central Hospital and remains unconscious.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Consulate in Songkhla, which confirmed the nationality of both victims, said it was still waiting for the next of kin to come forward to arrange the necessary documentation.
It is understood that both victims were Quranic tahfiz students in Yarang, Pattani, and were on their way back before the accident occurred. — Bernama
