AI cannot replace human touch in politics, says Chang

JOHOR BARU: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is beneficial for data analysis during elections, but it cannot replace the personal care and commitment shown to voters, says Chang Lih Kang.

The PKR vice-president said AI has been helpful in the party’s efforts, including central elections and planning for the general election and the upcoming Sabah election, but urged members not to rely solely on technology.

"Although I am Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, I advise you not to rely 100% on AI because some things cannot be translated using AI.

If we want voters to feel our care and commitment, we cannot use AI; we have to go to the ground and put in the work," he said in his speech at the PKR national congress on Saturday (May 24).

He added that politics is about perception management, so members must give confidence to the people by being present, especially in the upcoming Sabah polls.

Touching on the central election, which concluded yesterday (May 23), Chang said he was confident those who lost would continue working with the party.
