Cops, Transport Ministry probing fatal FRU crash separately, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: Two types of investigations will be conducted into the tragic accident that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel on Tuesday (May 13), says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

"During today's Cabinet meeting, the Transport Ministry announced the establishment of an independent special task force to examine the non-criminal aspects of the accident, focusing on vehicle (safety), which falls under the ministry's jurisdiction," the Communications Minister stated during his weekly briefing at the Communications Ministry in Putrajaya on Wednesday (May 14).

He added that the police will also continue its investigation.

“Investigations by the Transport Ministry are expected to be completed within a month and will be presented at a Cabinet meeting before any decisions are made,” he said.

He also noted that all nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel had group insurance, and their heirs or families would be eligible to receive the claims.

"The Home Minister, who is visiting five families in Ipoh and Teluk Intan today, will distribute RM2,000 in emergency aid to the affected families," he said in response to a question on whether the government has allocated any donations or incentives for the families of the FRU personnel.
