Teluk Intan crash: Five FRU personnel still in critical condition, says Perak exco rep


IPOH: Five Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel who were injured in the Teluk Intan accident on Tuesday (May 13) remain in critical condition, says A. Sivanesan.

The Perak health committee chairman said four were still warded in the Teluk Intan Hospital intensive care unit (ICU) while one is in the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital ICU ward here.

Sivanesan added that three more personnel have been moved to the normal ward.

"All five are still in critical condition.

"The three (others) are out of danger and have been moved to a normal ward," he told a press conference after paying his respects to the late Sjn S. Perumal's family in Lahat here on Wednesday.

"They are being treated by the respective hospitals. We all pray that they will be all right.

"One has been discharged and allowed home," he added.

Sjn Perumal, 44, was one of the nine FRU personnel who were killed in the 8.50am accident.

They were returning to the FRU Unit 5 base in Sungai Senam here after completing an assignment in Teluk Intan before the vehicle they were in was rammed by a gravel-laden lorry.

Eight died at the scene, and one succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at Teluk Intan Hospital.

Sivanesan said the state would also be discussing ways to help the victims' families, especially their children.

"We sympathise with the family of the victims.

"We will not leave them like this and will discuss to see what we can do for the victims' families, as what we did (for the victims' famililies) in the (Royal Malaysian Navy) helicopter crash last year," he said, adding that Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, who is currently abroad, has been informed about the tragedy.
