KUALA LUMPUR: The family of Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh is calling for proper updates from the authorities regarding the progress of the investigation into her disappearance.
Lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo, representing the family, said they deserve clear and timely information.
“They should not have to rely on fragmented media reports to piece together what should be transparently shared with them.
“We also call on relevant ministers to speak up,” she added in a statement yesterday.
Sangeet criticised the police for offering no basis for their theory that Pamela might have staged her own abduction.
“Surely the police are aware that Pamela is a mother of three, one of whom has a serious medical condition requiring regular treatment. Without prompt care, the condition could be fatal.
“It is unfathomable to think she would abandon her child knowing the consequences,” she said.
Sangeet also noted that Pamela had attended nine rounds of questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“Two days prior (to her disappearance), she even filed a judicial review application against the anti-graft body,” she said.
The lawyer questioned whether there was surveillance camera recording from Pamela’s temporary residence in Cheras.
“If there is, has the footage been checked to determine if she was followed? We hope the authorities reviewed toll records to trace the vehicles used to abduct her,” she said.
Meanwhile, the MACC has denied allegations that a senior officer had pressured Pamela to settle her divorce matters.
In a statement, the MACC said that they refute the allegations.
“An internal investigation confirmed that the officer in question was not involved in the investigation related to Pamela and has never met her.
“The said officer has lodged a police report and filed an official complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) regarding the video, which he described as defamatory and malicious.
“He strongly denies all accusations and has left the matter to the relevant authorities for further investigation into the individual responsible for spreading the false claims,” the MACC said.
Pamela was summoned to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on April 9 to assist with an investigation under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act, and was abducted on the way.
