PETALING JAYA: The cooperation between Umno and Pakatan Harapan for the Sabah state election will be among the agenda items discussed during the Umno supreme council meeting Wednesday night.
The Star was informed that the meeting will also discuss introducing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between political parties in the state to form a coalition for the upcoming state polls.
“The issues will be presented to the Umno leadership and later brought up to the supreme council meeting (tonight) for them to decide how to face the state election.
“This is crucial to ensure the stability of the government and to prevent party hopping after the election,” the source said.
Another agenda for the meeting to focus on is to extend the federal-level unity government framework to Sabah.
The move is to ensure both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan are aligned ahead of the crucial state polls.
The meeting is also scheduled to discuss a proposal to establish a joint secretariat between political coalitions that have agreed to work together in the upcoming state election.
The source also shared that a meeting between senior Sabah Umno leaders was held on Tuesday (April 29) to discuss matters related to the state election.
He said the outcome will be presented to the Supreme Council tonight to consider and decide.
“We hope to finalise any outstanding issues as part of preparations for the state election,” the source added.
On April 13, Sabah Barisan Nasional has confirmed it will partner with Sabah Pakatan Harapan in the upcoming state election, signalling a united front aimed at realigning politically and addressing long-standing development issues.
State Barisan and Umno chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said the decision was finalised during a retreat held in Penang late last year.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, said no official decision has yet been made regarding political cooperation between Pakatan and Barisan in the Sabah election.
Loke said matters relating to the cooperation would be discussed in an official meeting in the future.
Currently, Pakatan is part of the GRS-led state government.
