Former Minister Rafidah Aziz warns public of scam video exploiting her image

KUALA LUMPUR: Former minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz has urged the public to be wary of a scam video using her image and voice to promote investments in an online scheme.

Rafidah, in a statement on Thursday (June 25), said it has come to her attention that her photo and voice have been used by scammers to induce and influence the public to invest in some scheme with seemingly quick and profitable returns.

"I strongly deny involvement in such investments, whether directly or indirectly, and I condemn the use of my photo and AI-generated voice as part of an advertisement.

"Of late, I have seen similar videos of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Prime Minister and several business leaders being shared, purporting that they are investing in such schemes and persuading viewers to follow suit.

"There is now such gross abuse of AI.

"I hope the Federal Government will take action to prevent such abuse as the scammers have even dared to use the king and prime minister in their investment advertisements," she said.

The 1.47min long video posted on social media, including a page on Facebook, shows Rafidah speaking about an "investment scheme" where people will receive a phone call offering them money.

The video has a doctored version of her saying that it is government guaranteed and that those who invest will earn RM770 a day for life.

The AI-generated video claimed that people who join the programme and invest RM425 will earn RM23,000 in the first four weeks.

It claims to be exclusive to Malaysians and certified by the Finance Ministry and other relevant parties, with limited slots available, using an AI-generated version of Rafidah as their front.
