GRS and Pakatan free to decide election partners, says Hajiji

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor speaking to the media after attending the PGRS Aidilfitri Open House in Sungai Sibuga, Sandakan on Saturday (April 19).

KOTA KINABALU: Only Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) can decide their partners for the upcoming state election, says GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Responding to Barisan Nasional’s confirmation of teaming up with Pakatan in the next Sabah polls, Hajiji reminded all parties that the current Sabah government comprises GRS and Pakatan Plus.

“That is their view. I cannot comment on that. What is clear is that the current state government is a GRS-PH Plus government. In politics, we aim for unity and political stability for Sabah.

“Still, it must be remembered that GRS-PH leads this government, and we are the ones who will decide who our election partners are,” he said.

Hajiji said this after attending the PGRS Aidilfitri Open House in Sungai Sibuga, Sandakan, on Saturday (April 19).

However, Hajiji admitted that GRS’s door remains open to those who want to work with GRS and Pakatan.

He added that GRS and Pakatan are expected to have a meeting to discuss the matter soon, but he could not reveal the date.

Last Saturday, Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin announced that Barisan would contest the next Sabah election with Pakatan as its ally.

The Sabah election is due by September 2025, but political leaders have signalled that it could be held earlier.

The current Sabah state government is led by the GRS coalition in partnership with Pakatan, forming the GRS-PH Plus administration.

GRS consists of eight parties, including Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, Parti Bersatu Sabah, Sabah STAR, Sabah Progressive Party, Liberal Democratic Party, United Sabah National Organisation, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah, and Parti Cinta Sabah.

Pakatan component parties include the Democratic Action Party, Parti Keadilan Rakyat, United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation, and Amanah.
