Durian skin, tea leaf soap wins big

WHILE durian skin and used tea bags are typically thrown away, a group of students from Sekolah Menengah (SM) Teknik Tuanku Jaafar in Seremban, have managed to turn these waste materials into soap.

Called Wanderlust, the soap was created last year by Muhammad Naqib Mikail Mohamad Najib, Nur ‘Ain Raihanah Ahmad Nzryshah and Noorul Aqil Zahirah – all of whom are now in Form Five.

The school’s chemistry teacher Ainul Inayah Hamzah said Wanderlust, which dissolves in water, is made using extracts from durian rind and green tea leaves.

“The combination produces antioxidant and antibacterial properties,” Harian Metro quoted her as saying.

She added a collaborative effort with the Atta-Ur-Rahman Institute, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Puncak Alam, Selangor, has confirmed its effectiveness.

She also said the team won the Gold Award, Top 10 Award, and Best Environmental Award at the World Youth STEM Invention Innovation international competition held in February in Medan, Indonesia.

> “Stop speculating that my mother does not favour single mothers,” says celebrity Muaz on his relationship with actress Bella Astillah.

The 28-year-old performer, whose full name is Muaz Mohamad Zabir, said his mother did not have any issues with Bella during their courtship, Kosmo! reported.

“She has met Bella and even dined with her; there were no issues. Please stop claiming that my mother chased Bella out or that there was a big argument, because none of that happened,” Muaz said, adding that he’s still friends with Bella and recently visited her during Hari Raya Aidilfitri at her home.
