JOHOR BARU: Polling for the 16th Johor State Election has officially ended at 6pm on Saturday (July 11) after all 1,076 polling centres across the state closed.

The polling process began at 8am, with voting stations closing in stages throughout the day. The earliest polling centre to close was the Balai Raya Pulau Besar in the Tenggaroh state constituency at 11am.

As of 5pm, 67.44%, or over 1.8 million of the state's 2.6 million ordinary voters had cast their ballots.

The Election Commission (EC) earlier set a voter turnout target of 70%, with full results expected as early as 10pm on Saturday.

All ballot boxes from the state's 4,889 voting streams are now being transported to vote tallying centres before the official results are announced.

At the same time, the opening of postal ballot envelopes has begun and is being livestreamed on the EC's official Facebook page to ensure transparency.

A total of 172 candidates are contesting 56 seats in the state election. – Bernama
