Tourist areas in Narathiwat still safe for Malaysians visit, says Thai tourist police

KOTA BHARU: Thailand's Tourist Police stated that the tourist areas in Ban Thon, Narathiwat, remain safe to visit after a bomb blast incident on Sunday (April 20), but advised visitors to use the main routes to reach the destination.

Deputy Head of Thailand's Tourist Police (Seventh Region), Lieutenant Colonel Sakarin Anusamansakul, said that the village roads are remote and rarely used by the public, raising concerns about potential safety risks.

He emphasised that the tourist areas in Ban Thon are still safe to visit, as the bomb explosion incident on Sunday did not target the public, including tourists from Malaysia.

"Those responsible for the attack targeted security forces, such as the police, not the public. Therefore, Malaysians need not worry as their safety remains assured."

"Thai authorities, including the Tourist Police, will continue to enhance security controls, including patrols and monitoring in areas frequently visited by Malaysians," he told Bernama on Monday (April 21).

On Sunday, seven people were injured after a homemade bomb exploded by the roadside near a police post in Ban Thon.

Ban Thon is popular among Malaysians who want to enjoy authentic Thai food such as tom yam, mango sticky rice, and fresh seafood.

In addition, its serene beaches, picturesque views, and the charm of a well-preserved fishing village make it a favourite destination for Malaysian tourists seeking to enjoy nature's beauty away from the hustle and bustle of city life. - Bernama
