Defending champions Wei Chong-Kai Wun pull out of Malaysian Masters


PETALING JAYA: Men's doubles pairs, Man Wei Chong will not get the chance to defend the Malaysian Masters crown he won with Tee Kai Wun last year after the pair withdrew from next week’s edition.

Wei Chong, who partners Tee Kai Wun, is still struggling with a right knee injury.

More worrying, the 25-year-old will also miss the Singapore Open from May 26-31 and the Indonesian Open from June 2-7, while surgery is now being considered.

Wei Chong has been battling the injury since February and previously revealed that he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee.

Despite the setback, Wei Chong continued to compete in several major tournaments, including the All-England, the Asian Championships in Ningbo, China and the Thomas Cup Finals in Horsens, Denmark two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, world No. 2 women’s doubles player Pearly Tan is also still being monitored as she has yet to fully recover from the back injury she suffered before the Uber Cup campaign.
