PETALING JAYA: Controversial line calls prone to human error could be a thing of the past with the implementation of the Reveal Lens Instant Review System (IRS).

Approved by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) trialed this system at the Affin 100Plus Junior Elite Tour Finals at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara, which concluded on Sunday.

BAM are betting heavily on this AI-backed technology to ensure an uninterrupted and smooth gameplay.

"We expect better consistency and transparency with match decisions,” said BAM secretary Datuk Kenny Goh.

The locally developed system by Revealtek Sdn Bhd allows players to challenge line calls and receive instant AI-assisted decisions.

To avoid any instances of tampering, the entire process is displayed live on court.

Additionally, the implementation of the system at the junior level will provide a boost to our local shuttlers as no other domestic junior in the region has used it.

Coaches were also given access to match footage and performance data from the system to assist with their future training programs.

"This will have a significant impact on how players are developed by giving them and their coaches a chance to experience the latest technology," added Kenny.

Revealtek is also developing further tools based on the same system to analyze player data to aid in player development and talent identification.

They hope to have a potential rollout from September this year.
