Man nabbed after swinging parang at cops in Gombak


PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a local man who swung a parang at them on Jalan Ulu Yam, Batu Caves, Gombak

The incident occurred when the Gombak police headquarters' Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division was carrying out an operation to detain a suspected drug trafficker at 4.30pm on Monday (May 11).

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the suspect attempted to flee before turning aggressive and attacking policemen with the parang.

"A 57cm-long sharp weapon was seized along with what is believed to heroin weighing 18.9g and syabu weighing 7.4g," he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 12).

He said the case is being investigated under Sections 39B, 39A(1) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

"The suspect has been remanded for four days until Friday," he said.
