Melaka polls: PKR to contest Ayer Limau, bringing Pakatan target to 22 seats

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has added one more state seat to its list for the upcoming Melaka state election, bringing its total to 10 seats, up from the nine previously announced.

PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the additional seat is the Ayer Limau constituency, which will be contested by Major (Rtd) Jaimi Dimon.

She noted that this addition brings the total number of seats to be contested by Pakatan Harapan to 22, an increase from the 21 previously announced.

However, Fuziah said this remains subject to change.

"Yesterday, we issued the letters of appointment (candidacy papers), and we have since added one more seat to our list. When we announced our candidates previously, it was for nine seats; today, we have added another, bringing the total number of seats to be contested by PKR to 10.

"As it stands, there are 22 (Pakatan candidates), unless other parties also make additions," she said on Thursday (Oct 29).

On Wednesday (Oct 28), Pakatan Harapan communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the coalition is maintaining its decision to contest 21 seats in the Melaka state election.

Fahmi said Pakatan would evaluate its participation in the state polls based on its own capacity and capabilities, taking into account strategic and tactical considerations.

Regarding preparations for the state election, Fuziah, who is also the Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, said she had visited all of PKR’s main operations centres in the state constituencies the party is contesting, and expressed satisfaction with the readiness of the election machinery.

"So far, I am satisfied with their preparations covering everything from the election machinery, polling districts, and operations centres to data and logistics, and they are ready for nomination day this Saturday (Oct 31)," she said after attending a press conference on the implementation of the Deepavali Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme for 2026.

The Melaka State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on Sept 23.

The Election Commission (EC) has set Nov 14 as polling day for the Melaka state election, with nomination day scheduled for Oct 31 and early voting for Nov 10.

A total of 687,697 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the state election. – Bernama
