Ayer Kuning polls: Barisan’s Yusri declines public asset declaration

TAPAH: Barisan Nasional's Ayer Kuning by-election candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir does not see the need to publicly declare his assets.

The Tapah Umno secretary said he has already declared his assets to the relevant bodies upon resigning as head of the Islamic and Moral Education Department at the Ipoh campus of the Institute of Teacher Education earlier this month.

"I have already made the declaration, as it is a requirement before I opted for early retirement.

"We are required to submit our declarations before stepping down from a civil servant post and also when we retire," he said during a press conference after a door-to-door visit at Kampung Baru Tapah Road on Monday (April 21).

"As I've already done so, there's no issue," he added.

Mohamad Yusri was asked about his stance after Parti Sosialis Malaysia's KS Bawani publicly declared her assets at Pasar Tani Tapah to demonstrate her commitment to transparency and accountability on Sunday (April 20).

Mohamad Yusri will face Bawani and Perikatan Nasional's Abd Muhaimin Malek for the state seat.

The by-election is set for April 26 while early voting is on April 22.

The seat became vacant following the death of incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin in February.

In the 2022 General Election, Ishsam polled 9,088 votes and won by a 2,213-vote majority, defeating Amanah's Mohd Nazri Hashim, Muhammad Noor Farid of PAS, Pejuang's Maziah Salim and Bawani.
