Ayer Kuning polls: Banir residents want assemblyman for all races, says Tan

TAPAH: Residents in the Banir and Banir Utara polling districts want an assemblyman who can represent all races, said Datuk Tan Teik Cheng.

The MCA vice-president said constituents in both areas have informed him they want someone who can serve all races and provide good services.

"They also reject extreme politics and prefer someone with a moderate stance," he said during a press conference after canvassing support for Barisan Nasional's candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir for the Ayer Kuning by-election in Kampung Baru Banir on Sunday (April 20).

The by-election follows the death of incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin in February.

Polling is on April 26, while early voting is on April 22.

Mohamad Yusri faces Perikatan's Abd Muhaimin Malek and KS Bawani of Parti Sosialis Malaysia for the state seat.

In the 2022 General Election, Ishsam polled 9,088 votes and won by a 2,213 majority, defeating Amanah's Mohd Nazri Hashim, Muhammad Noor Farid of PAS, Pejuang's Maziah Salim, and Bawani.

Tan said MCA is working hard in the two areas to gain support for Mohamad Yusri.

"We are also trying various ways to encourage people to come back and vote," he said.
