AFTER seven years, an employee at a construction company in Selangor discovered that his employer had never credited his Employees Provident Fund (EPF) deductions into his account, despite having claimed to have done so.
Kosmo! reported that 39-yea-old Ahmad said he only realised he had not received the deductions after checking his EPF account balance earlier this year.
“When I checked my balance, none of those deductions were in my account,” he said, adding that the company had stolen about RM20,000 from him throughout the years.
Ahmad was among the individuals whom Kosmo! had interviewed for a story on workers whose employers had syphoned off their EPF contributions.
Hanisah, a 40-year-old nurse, said she realised that her EPF deductions totalling RM18,000 had not been credited after checking her balance in February.
“After speaking to some of my colleagues, I discovered that they were also facing the same issue,” said Hanisah, who had reported the matter to the Labour Department.
She said that following the report, the company in question faced penalties from the authorities but she has not been reimbursed.
