KUCHING: Malaysia can emerge as a respected, competitive and exemplary nation with strong unity, good governance and knowledgeable people, says Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
He said the nation's real wealth lay not only in its natural resources but in its people's ability to build knowledge, innovation and character.
"A successful nation is one with citizens who are open-minded, have integrity and are always ready to learn," he said in his Malaysia Day message on Tuesday (Sept 15).
Wan Junaidi called on all Malaysians, especially Sarawakians, to continue preserving the spirit of mutual trust, respect and cooperation.
He said this was vital to ensure the nation remained strong in facing future challenges.
"Let us make Malaysia Day not merely an annual celebration but a renewal of our resolve to build a more just, progressive and humane nation," he said.
The Sarawak Governor also said Malaysia needed a new mindset to face a more complex world driven by artificial intelligence, digital economy and geopolitical changes.
He said the nation must strive to create the future rather than merely be consumers of change.
In this respect, Wan Junaidi said Sarawak played a key role in catalysing a development approach based on economic prosperity, environmental sustainability and social well-being.
"This balance will ensure the continuity of prosperity for future generations," he said.
