HAZE took a toll on rock legend Datuk Awie, who revealed that he had developed bronchitis for the second time.

However, that did not stop him from completing a concert on Sunday.

His determination to push through the discomfort won over the 20,000 fans at the Awie Rock King – Last Man Standing 2026 concert at Stadium Merdeka, Harian Metro reported.

Before performing Ingatkan Dia with Akim, Awie told the crowd about his condition.

“The haze has been quite bad, causing me to get bronchitis (inflammation) for the second time. Whatever happens, the show must go on,” he said, drawing loud applause from the audience.

Despite his voice sounding hoarse at times, Awie, whose real name is Ahmad Azhar Osman, continued entertaining the crowd, even holding his throat on several occasions as he sang.

“It has been a tough challenge. We will continue with whatever strength we have, and God willing, we will finish the show well,” said Awie, 58, who delivered 36 songs throughout the show.

> At least RM2,000 a month is needed to care for Mohd Shariy Sulaiman, who is bedridden, leaving his sister to have to keep working despite having to deal with hyperthyroidism herself.

Supianah Sulaiman, 55, said her income was largely used to pay for milk, medication, wound care and other necessities.

“Although I am not well, I still work because I want to help my brother.

“No matter how difficult things get, I cannot leave him in that condition,” she told Utusan Malaysia.

The health of Mohd Shariy, 53, who was previously a security guard, began to worsen several years ago after being diagnosed with thyroid problems.

He lost his voice, and at one point, collapsed in his car.

He was later admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital after suffering severe oxygen deprivation, with his heart stopping for about 10 minutes before doctors managed to revive him.
