PETALING JAYA: A business group has launched an initiative to encourage entrepreneurs and businesses to integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles with Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their operations.
The initiative, known as the Forward Asia Strategic Transformation (FAST) initiative, is a 15-part roadshow organised by the Malaysian Entrepreneurs’ Development Association (PUMM).
The series, which began on Friday (April 17), aims to equip entrepreneurs with the tools and insights needed to adapt to global shifts in technology, environmental responsibility, and governance.
PUMM president Datuk Dr Teh Tai Yong described the initiative as a call to action, especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which he believes have the agility and potential to lead in sustainable practices.
He noted that while ESG is often associated with large corporations, SMEs can start by taking smaller but meaningful steps, such as improving energy efficiency, promoting fair labour practices, and strengthening governance.
These measures, he said, will help build business resilience and long-term value.
"ESG is no longer optional. It is a strategic imperative. It helps attract investment, expand into new markets, and earn the trust of today’s increasingly discerning consumers and stakeholders," he said.
The FAST roadshow aims to increase awareness of the risks businesses face in ignoring ESG and AI, from climate-related disruptions and ethical concerns in technology to widening social inequalities.
Each session features roundtable dialogues designed to introduce business leaders to practical pathways for implementing sustainable practices while unlocking new growth opportunities through innovation.
The next session is set to take place on May 8 at KL Wellness City in Bukit Jalil.
Speakers, including Datuk Seri Dr Vincent Tiew and Cris Angel, will share insights on aligning personal wellbeing with organisational performance, and how that balance can improve productivity and profitability.
The initiative will culminate in a flagship summit in November, where regional business leaders, policymakers, and investors are expected to convene to commit to bold sustainability actions in line with global goals.
FAST organising chairman Mr Yens (no full name provided) said the initiative was launched to create a platform for cross-sector collaboration and forward-thinking leadership across ASEAN.
Its goal is to support a new generation of entrepreneurs ready to drive inclusive growth while contributing to a regenerative and resilient future for the region.
"Our mission through FAST is to empower a new wave of leaders who will build profitable, responsible businesses that prioritise people and the planet," he said.
