Melaka cops working with Johor counterparts to probe inflammatory FB comments


MELAKA: Melaka police are cooperating with their counterparts in Johor to track down the holder of a Facebook account who posted inflammatory remarks that have sparked public outrage, including a suggestion to bomb mosques during Friday prayers.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said a 68-year-old had lodged a police report at the Sungai Udang police station against the account holder by the name of "Lyan Liu" at 5.10pm.on Thursday (April 17).

In his report, the trader from Taman Peruna in Sungai Udang here claimed that the comment made by the account holder was seen as a malicious act and an attempt to disrupt social harmony.

The trader also stated he was dissatisfied with the comment as it touched on religious sensitivities.

ACP Christopher Patit said the police report has been referred to the Johor police as the initial one was made at the Tampoi police station.

"Other states have also received reports related to the same incident, so the case will be referred to the location where the first complaint was made.

"We will also give our cooperation into the investigation," he said on Friday (April 18).
