IPOH: Hulu Kinta assemblyman Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad has dismissed allegations that he brandished a firearm during the PKR branch-level elections on Sunday (April 13).
Muhamad Arafat said he gave his statement at the district police station here at about 10pm on Monday (April 14).
"I was at the police station for about 40 minutes," he said in a press conference here on Tuesday (April 15).
This was following a video that went viral, which claimed that Muhamad Arafat had brandished a pistol and threatened members who were trying to get votes.
Muhamad Arafat, said that while he did own a pistol, he did not carry it during the alleged incident.
"I was on my way to a community hall to attend a programme when I saw several cars were parked, which had blocked the entrance.
"I got down from my car and told those responsible that they cannot park like that.
"They then started provoking me, and I left shortly after, feeling that they were there with political motives.
"My assistant was trying to pass me a torch lighter for lighting a cigar," he added.
