Two killed in road collision near Bagan Serai

IPOH: Two people were killed while another suffered minor injuries in a road accident involving two vehicles along Jalan Taiping–Bagan Serai on Sunday (May 24).

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the victims were a 66-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman travelling in a hatchback.

He said they were pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel.

“Firefighters received an emergency call regarding the incident at 4.56pm and arrived at the scene eight minutes later.

“The accident involved a multi-purpose vehicle and a hatchback.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found the male driver of the hatchback trapped in the driver’s seat and unconscious, while the female passenger had been removed from the vehicle by members of the public,” he said in a statement.

He added that the MPV’s driver, a 46-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and managed to exit the vehicle before rescuers arrived.

“Firefighters from the Bagan Serai Fire and Rescue Station used rescue equipment and applied the Saver concept to extricate the trapped victim before handing both victims over to Health Ministry personnel.

“The bodies were later handed over to the police for further action, while the injured Toyota Innova driver was taken to the Parit Buntar Hospital for treatment.

The operation ended at 6.15pm.
