Pressing issues must be addressed at next Sabah assembly sitting, says Bung

KOTA KINABALU: The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government must not underestimate the voice of the people, especially as public concern grows over key issues affecting the state's administration, says Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

The Lamag assemblyman stressed that the upcoming state assembly sitting next week should not be treated as a routine event.

He said this would be a vital platform for open and responsible debate as it may be the last sitting before the state election.

"This is not a stage to construct political narratives or conceal weaknesses.

"Issues related to investments, economic agreements, management of land and mineral resources and major development projects involving large sums of money must be scrutinised transparently," said Bung Moktar in a statement on Saturday (April 12).

He said all elected representatives owe a responsibility to the people, not political interests.

"Sabah cannot remain a state that is rich on paper while its people continue to suffer with unemployment and widening development gaps between urban and rural areas," he said.

Bung Moktar, who is also the Sabah Barisan Nasional and state Umno chief, urged GRS leaders to respond with facts and data if there is nothing to hide.

"All questions troubling the people must be raised in the assembly. If the government has done no wrong, prove it. Throw the space for discussion wide open.

"Many questions remain unanswered. The people of Sabah are waiting. Do not disappoint them again," he said.
