Decision on fee structure for S'wak FWTA rates pending talks with service provider, says Abang Jo

KUCHING: The Sarawak government is awaiting the outcome of talks on the fee structure of the Foreign Workers Transformation Approach (FWTA) before deciding on the rates.

Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said discussions were ongoing between Deputy Minister in the Premier's Department Datuk Gerawat Gala and the FWTA service provider.

"We are waiting for the recommendations and report. After that we will make a decision," he told reporters on Tuesday (May 26).

Abang Johari also said the government would consider the economic situation when deciding whether to lower the rates.

"We will look at how we can restructure the rates for the private sector," he said.

Industry players in Sarawak recently raised concerns over the increase in renewal fees for foreign worker permits under FWTA.

The fee is scheduled to rise from RM904 to RM1,484 beginning June 1, followed by a further increase to RM1,854 next year.
