Chan Ming Kai leads Alor Setar PKR division


PETALING JAYA: Chan Ming Kai - the Prime Minister's political secretary - now leads the Alor Setar PKR division after winning the divisional elections in Kedah.

Chan, previously the deputy chief and a former Alor Setar MP, secured 932 votes, defeating Ang Say Thong, who received 471 votes in the poll results that were released on Saturday (April 12).

Datuk Zamri Yusuf, who formerly held the division chief post, was elected as deputy with 768 votes, replacing Chan. He defeated Fadhlurrahman Zawawi, who received 621 votes.

The elections were held across all 16 PKR divisions in Kedah, including Langkawi and Jerlun.

In the Sungai Petani division, MP Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari retained his position unopposed, as did Bakar Arang assemblyman Loh Wei Chai for the deputy role.

Langkawi division chief Ismail Wasi Ahmad Shafawi defended his seat in a three-way contest, while Ahmad Ramli Shaarani won the deputy post.

Mohamad Rudzi Samsudin was elected Jerlun division chief, defeating former PH parliamentary candidate Dr Mohamed Fadzil Mohd Ali. Muhamad Nadzrin Ibrahim became the deputy.

In Kubang Pasu, Azizi Azizan won a four-way contest for division chief, while S. Sugumar secured the deputy role in another four-way race.

Mohd Tahar Hussin and Mohd Hafiz Mohd Akhir were elected as chief and deputy for the Padang Terap division, respectively. In Pokok Sena, Mohd Altab P. A Ibrahim and Che Zahari Che Ani secured the corresponding posts.

Former Kuala Kedah MP Dr Azman Ismail lost his bid for the division's top post to Mohamad Shakir Lukman Hakim. Datuk Muhamad Nasrul Nizar Abd Rahman was elected deputy.

In Pendang, Datuk Halim Khomiza unseated incumbent Datuk Zulkifly Mohamad to become division chief, while Sazari Mohamad was elected deputy.

In Jerai, S. Poobalan defeated Mohammed Firdaus Johari – son of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul – for the top post. Mohd Soferi Mohamad was chosen as deputy.

For the Sik division, Habib Ahmad Muhaiyuddin Habib Danial and Ewe Hua Choon were elected as chief and deputy, respectively.

In Baling, the new leadership includes M. S. Chandar and Mohd Ashraf Abu Bakar. In Merbok, M. Yugins and Mohd Khairulizal Khazali secured the respective posts.

Shamsul Anuar Abdullah and Ramli Abd Rani will lead Padang Serai, while Yeo Keng Chuan and S. Sivaguru head the Kulim-Bandar Baharu division.

Results for the PKR women’s wing at the division level were announced, but the youth wing elections will undergo a re-vote due to a previous cancellation.

PKR announced on 26 January that voting for its Central Leadership Council and the women’s and youth central wings will be held on 24 May.
