Toddler, woman die in tragic accident in JB

JOHOR BARU: A local female driver and a toddler lost their lives following a collision involving their car and two pick-up trucks.

Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak reported that the accident occurred at Jalan Bestari, Ulu Tiram, near here at 3pm on Thursday (April 10).

He explained that the MyVi car's driver was heading towards Ulu Tiram town with four passengers when she turned right at the site of the incident.

"The 23-year-old local male driver of the Toyota Hilux, coming from the opposite direction, could not avoid the vehicle and hit the right side of the MyVi," ACP Mohd Sohaimi stated in a statement.

This collision caused the car to spin, and simultaneously, another Toyota Hilux coming from Ulu Tebrau failed to avoid the car and rammed into its rear.

"The 58-year-old car driver, who was trapped in the vehicle and suffered serious head injuries, was pronounced dead on the spot," said ACP Mohd Sohaimi.

He added that the one-year-old boy sustained head injuries and passed away while being treated at Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) in Pandan, Johor Baru.

The 62-year-old and 83-year-old local women, family members of the deceased driver, are being treated at the Red Zone of HSI for serious injuries, along with a three-year-old boy under their care.

"The driver of the first pick-up truck suffered only minor injuries, while the other pick-up truck driver escaped unhurt," said ACP Mohd Sohaimi.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act, and witnesses are encouraged to contact the police at 07-3864222 to assist with the investigation.
