Dungun drowning tragedy: Body of second teen found near Paka Market jetty


DUNGUN: The body of the second teenager who drowned in Sungai Beril near Taman Beril, Paka, on Sunday (May 24) has been found.

Acting Dungun OCPD Deputy Supt Jumaidy Bah Chong Weh said the body of Muhammad Aidil Amsyar Mohd Zul-Zunaidi, 14, was spotted floating near the Paka Market jetty at 9.55am on Monday (May 25).

He said the body of the SMK Agama Durian Guling student was located about 2km from where the incident occurred.

"Rescue personnel rushed to the location immediately after being alerted to the discovery," he said when contacted.

He added that the body has been sent to Hospital Dungun's forensic unit for a post-mortem.

Yesterday, the search and rescue team found the body of the victim's elder brother, Muhammad Amir Ashraf, 15, at 3.47pm, 7m from where both brothers were reported missing.

It was reported that the two brothers drowned after being swept away by strong currents while swimming in Sungai Beril with two friends at 11am on Sunday.

The victims' father Mohd Zul-Zunaidi Mohd Baldin, 40, said the brothers would be laid to rest in his hometown in Melor, Kota Baru, Kelantan, upon the completion of the post-mortem. – Bernama
