TAPAH: The Communications Ministry is making efforts to enhance Internet connectivity at various locations nationwide, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
He said this was part of the ongoing efforts, where they are actively responding to specific complaints received from various places.
“For instance, a recent report regarding limited internet connectivity in Belaga in Sarawak has prompted immediate action.
“This is not an isolated case. We are addressing similar issues in many locations across the country,” he told reporters after a working visit to the Batang Padang Information Department here on Thursday (April 10).
He said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been instructed to visit the affected areas based on complaints received and carry out necessary rectification or improvement measures.
“One of the challenges faced is the need for an automated process to identify problematic areas, as relying solely on public feedback is inefficient.
“To address this, MCMC has been directed to conduct a comprehensive analysis using data from various sources, including Ookla's Speedtest.
“Based on this data, the government will soon issue a directive to all telecommunications providers requiring them to improve internet services,” he added.
On the by-election preparations, Fahmi said MCMC would ensure smooth Internet connectivity, not only during the nomination day but also for the polling day.
He said these preparations would cover all schools designated as polling centers, as well as Orang Asli villages.
“MCMC has identified several telecommunications providers whose service quality in certain areas may be unsatisfactory.
“They have already engaged with these telco companies to gather feedback and initiate follow-up actions,” he added.
