KLIA Ekspres, KLIA Transit rail services hit by cable thefts and signalling system failure

KUALA LUMPUR: Train services on the KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit lines saw significant disruptions following a series of cable thefts and a signalling system failure at the Bandar Tasik Selatan Station.

Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) said in a statement that the first disruption occurred at 6.20am Tuesday (April 8) and involved a cut cable at KM48.5 between Salak Tinggi Station and KLIA Terminal 1.

“To minimise disruption, combined services for both KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit were activated at 6.58am from KLIA Terminal 2 and 7am from KL Sentral.

“A shuttle train service from Salak Tinggi to KL Sentral began at 7.40am to ease the morning congestion.

“Train services resumed normal operations at 9.48am from KLIA T2 and 10am from KL Sentral,” it said on Wednesday (April 9).

However, a second incident occurred at 5.52pm Tuesday, with another cable cut at KM43.1 between Putrajaya and Cyberjaya Station and Salak Tinggi, causing train arrivals to be delayed by seven to 10 minutes.

Later that night, at 9.57pm, train services were suspended because of a signalling system disruption at the Bandar Tasik Selatan Station.

“A shuttle service between Putrajaya and Cyberjaya Station and KLIA Terminal 2 was activated at 10.20pm with a frequency of once every 20 minutes,” it said.

Two more cases of cable theft were reported on Wednesday.

The first, at 4.47am, was at KM47.2 between Salak Tinggi and KLIA T1; while the second, at 5.20am, happened at KM40.6 between Salak Tinggi and Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.

In response, ERL launched shuttle train services at 6am between Salak Tinggi–KLIA T1/T2 and Putrajaya and Cyberjaya–KL Sentral, also running at 20-minute intervals.

ERL added that its team is working around the clock to restore full services and assured passengers that every effort is being made to address the situation.

“We understand the impact these disruptions have had on our passengers, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience or delays caused,” the company said.

Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and to follow ERL’s social media platforms for the latest service updates.
