MetMalaysia: Strong winds, rough sea warning for Phuket and northern Melaka Straits

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a first-category warning for strong winds and rough seas in the waters off Phuket and the northern Melaka Straits from April 11 to 12.

In a statement, MetMalaysia said northwesterly winds with speeds of 40 to 50 km/h and waves as high as 3.5 metres are expected in these areas during this period. These conditions are hazardous to small boats, sea activities and marine sports.

"Strong northwesterly winds are expected to affect the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia from April 10 to 13, with the potential to trigger thunderstorms and heavy rain over a longer period in those areas," read the statement.

The public is advised to stay updated by visiting MetMalaysia’s official website at www.met.gov.my, following its official social media channels, or using the myCuaca mobile app for accurate and latest information. - Bernama
