MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for several states


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states in the country.

Thunderstorms with heavy rain and strong winds are expected in Sik, Baling, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu in Kedah.

Larut, Matang, Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Batang Padang, and Muallim in Perak will also be affected.

Similar weather is expected in Gua Musang in Kelantan and in Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, and Bentong in Pahang.

In Negeri Sembilan, thunderstorms are expected in Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, and Jempol.

A thunderstorm warning has also been issued for all of Johor.

Several areas in Sabah, including Sipitang, Nabawan, and Tambunan, will also be affected.

Other affected areas in Sabah are Papar, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Kota Belud, Tawau, Sandakan, Tongod, Kinabatangan, and Sandakan.

Thunderstorms are also expected to affect Lundu in Kuching, Sarawak.

The MetMalaysia advisory is valid until 5pm on Monday (March 31).

The Environment Department's Air Pollutant Index Management System (Apims) shows moderate readings for the peninsula, except for Mentakab (47), Jerantut (47), and Kuantan (35), which have good air quality.

Only Kuala Terengganu has an unhealthy air quality reading of 133.

Air quality in Sarawak and Sabah ranges from good to moderate.

The Apims air quality readings range from good (0-50), moderate (51-100), unhealthy (101-200), very unhealthy (201-300), and hazardous (above 300).
