Floods: Parts of Batu Pahat still waterlogged, keeping evacuees from going home

BATU PAHAT: Floodwaters in Batu Pahat remain stagnant, resulting in more than 300 people still seeking shelter at a temporary relief centre here.

The Johor disaster management committee reported that 318 evacuees from 107 families are putting up at the SMK Seri Gading relief centre as of 4pm on Tuesday (April 8).

It said those affected are from Kampung Baharu, Kampung Parit Bengkok, Kampung Parit Kaspan, Kampung Parit Samion, Kampung Parit Haji Salleh Rios, Kampung Sri Pandan and Kampung Parit Samijan.

“Earlier in the day, the centre was housing 321 evacuees. After one family returned home, 318 evacuees remained,” it said.

The committee added that the water level at the river monitoring station in Sungai Senggarang sits at a warning threshold.

“We are constantly monitoring weather conditions on the ground and Batu Pahat has been seeing sunny skies since Tuesday morning.

“We are also monitoring the water level regularly to see if it is safe for evacuees to return home,” it added.
