Veteran actress Noor Azizah laid to rest in Ipoh

IPOH: Veteran actress Datin Noor Azizah Azizul Hassan, 79, who passed away on Monday morning (April 7), was laid to rest at Masjid Paloh Muslim Cemetery here at about 2.50pm.

Over 100 individuals, comprising family members and close friends, attended the burial.

Among them was 1970s singer and Yayasan Kebajikan Artis Tanah Air (YKAT) president Datuk DJ Dave.

Noor Azizah, known for her role in the classic film, Enam Jahanam, is survived by her husband, Datuk Nik Hussain Nik Ali, 94; her two children Khairena, 38, and Khairi, 34; daughter-in-law Nur Zulaikha Azman, 35; and six-year-old grandson Kaiser Ali.

According to Khairena, the family had dinner together and watched fireworks at their home on Sunday (April 6).

She said that, however, at about 1am, her mother suddenly experienced shortness of breath and had to seek medical attention at the hospital.

"My mother had kidney issues but nothing critical. In fact, she went out for dinner with us yesterday and watched fireworks at home.

"But she suddenly had difficulty breathing around 1am, so I called an ambulance. When the ambulance arrived, she was already unconscious.

"The medical team did its best, but she was later pronounced dead,” she said when met here.

Meanwhile, the late actress’s cousin, Yong Arbeya Abd Rahman, 69, said the loss was deeply felt, as Noor Azizah was well-loved by her siblings, relatives and close friends.

She said the actress was generous and never hesitated to help those in need.

"Every year, she would give donations to 10 orphanages as part of her zakat contribution. She also made various donations to Masjid Paloh, including for the air-conditioners.

"I last saw her yesterday when I visited her house for Hari Raya. She was cheerful as always, laughing and chatting like usual,” she said.

Throughout her acting career, Noor Azizah starred in numerous films, including Jangan Tinggal Daku, Kembang Layu, Durjana, Di Belakang Tabir, Perintah Sri Paduka, Kalau Berpaut Di Dahan Rapuh, Sayang Anakku Sayang, Cinta dan Lagu and Pendekar.

She also acted in Indonesian productions, such as Malin Kundang alongside renowned actor Rano Karno, and Jangan Kau Tangiskan.- Bernama
