Sacrifice key to overcoming challenges, building stronger future, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: In conjunction with Aidiladha, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Muslims to embrace sacrifice as the fundamental prerequisite in overcoming challenges and building a stronger future for the nation.

In a Facebook post Tuesday (May 26), Anwar said the significance of the celebration, inspired by the example of Prophet Ibrahim AS and Prophet Ismail AS, serves as a reminder that every meaningful effort and struggle requires sacrifice.

"The sacrifices we make today carry their own value, whether in managing the nation's economy, pursuing knowledge or strengthening religious understanding, all of which shape the future.

"Enduring today's hardships for a better tomorrow is among the deepest wisdoms bestowed by God, for the future of our families, the country and even life after death," he said in his post.

Anwar said life would become empty and devoid of meaning without the willingness to sacrifice worldly attachments such as wealth, status and personal interests.

On the haj pilgrimage, the Prime Minister said the fifth pillar of Islam carries profound spiritual lessons aimed at nurturing humility and moderation.

He said the simple white ihram attire teaches Muslims the values of purity, cleanliness and simplicity, while the wuquf in Arafah instils humility and self-reflection regardless of status or social standing.

"This is the unmatched strength of haj, reflected through deep understanding, appreciation and the way we practise our faith.

"Let us not stray from our true purpose and path. This world should serve as a bridge towards the eternal life to come," he said.

Anwar also prayed for Malaysian haj pilgrims currently in the Holy Land, hoping they would be granted a haj mabrur and return home safely. - Bernama
