Rescuers to ensure no one left behind in homes affected by Subang Jaya inferno

PETALING JAYA: Authorities will perform a second sweep of homes affected by the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire on Tuesday (April 1) afternoon, says the Fire and Rescue Department.

Director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad said the second sweep aims to ensure no victims are left behind in the affected homes.

“We are taking this precaution due to concerns that some residents that live on their own did not report their status to the authorities here.

“Our teams will also eliminate any existing potential fire risks due to the explosion.

“The heat from the explosion released many plastic and carbon elements, so our team will go in to remove any fire risks,” he told reporters on Tuesday.

Most victims, he said, suffered burns to their legs due to the vapors from the leaked natural gas.

“Victims have been rushed to the Cyberjaya and Putrajaya hospitals with more serious cases referred to the Serdang hospital,” he said.

As an added precaution, Nor Hisham said gas pipeline valves in the vicinity have also been shut.

This involves valves along Dengkil, Kampung Lombong in Puchong, Batu Tiga in Shah Alam (211) and Meru, Klang (212).

Nor Hisham also advised those along valves 211 and 212 to refrain from entering the cordoned vicinity.

“The remaining gas here is being released gradually,” he said, adding that firemen are on standby for any eventuality.
