Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali bin Haji Wan Ismail said efforts to contain the fire was ongoing as of 11am and residents living in the vicinity of gas blast have been safety evacuated.

He said seven victims, including two Malaysians, were rescued from the fire.

He said valves of the affected pipeline that stretches to about 500 meters have been turned off but the fire is expected to continue until residual gas runs out.

He said about 80 firemen and about two dozen fire engines, water tankers and specialised fire-fighting vehicles were despatched to the scene after the department received a distress call at 8.25am.

It is learnt that several houses at Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru near the fire were also affected and several injured victims are being treated by paramedics.

Rescued victims were sent to Masjid Putra Heights multipurpose community hall for temporary shelter.

The department said a leak along a PETRONAS gas pipeline at Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Height, Subang Jaya is believed to have led to an explosion at 8.10am, startling residents living in the surrounding area on the second day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
