SUBANG JAYA: Tremors that felt like an earthquake – this was what area residents said it was like when a gas pipeline in Putra Heights here ruptured, causing a massive fire.

Tan Jia Shin, 17, said that when the incident occurred just after 8am on Tuesday (April 1), she was at home with her parents and two siblings when they felt a strong tremor.

"We rushed out and saw the fire raging ... just two lanes away from (our home).

"At that time, our only thoughts were for our pregnant mother's safety. We left the house without taking anything, not even the car, with the help of firefighters,” she said when met at the scene.

Another victim, 42-year-old Lee Weng Ken, suffered burns on his left leg.

He said he was shocked when the ceiling of his house collapsed and crushed his vehicle in the compound of the house at 8.10am.

"I rushed out but fell and suffered burns because of the heat from the blaze nearby," he said.

Another victim who wanted to be identified only as Andy, 52, said his house was about 100m from the inferno.

He said he and his two children, aged 14 and 18, felt the ground tremble and went outside where they saw the raging fire.

"I could only take the car out. My 18-year-old daughter injured her foot when she fell while climbing the fence.

"Everything around the house had melted (from the heat), making it difficult for us to get out,” he said.

Checks found that victims with minor injuries were placed at the Sri Maha Kaliamman temple in Subang Jaya to receive treatment from Health Ministry personnel.

As of 11am, 30 people had been given first aid while some were sent to hospitals in Serdang, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya for further treatment. – Bernama
