GEORGE TOWN: Although online shopping is popular, many still prefer last-minute in-store purchases for the immediate satisfaction of taking the items home.
Among them is factory supervisor Sirajuddin Jamaluddin, who enjoys trying on items for a better fit.
The 37-year-old, who admits to being a workaholic, made a conscious effort to take time off on Friday to go shopping with his family.
"We’re lucky these days with the convenience of online shopping, but it’s always better to try things on in person.
"Every year, we end up shopping at the last minute for clothes.
"This year, my wife, two kids, and I plan to wear gold-coloured outfits.
"I just bought my baju Melayu, and now we need to get my son some T-shirts and my daughter some new shoes," he said while trying on songkoks at a mall in Bayan Lepas.
Sarawakian Mohd Muqqri Sarial, 29, and his wife Rubiah Sulaiman, 30, also did their last-minute shopping before their flight back home with their five-year-old daughter.
They have been living in Penang for the past five years.
"We only started buying our Raya clothes this week and need to make sure we stick to our theme.
"This year, we have two outfits—one in grey and another in lilac.
"We still need to buy my daughter a matching scarf for her outfit and get her some new shoes,” said Mohd Muqqri, who works for the state Health Department.
He said their last-minute shopping also included a visit to the hair salon, as his daughter wanted a new haircut.
“The day is all about getting her some new things since we won’t have time once we get back to Sarawak.
"Once we’re home in Sarawak, it’s all about spending time with family and celebrating together,” he added.
