Perak cops boost monitoring at road fatality-prone ‘black spots’ for Hari Raya

IPOH: The police have identified 21 “black spots” in Perak prone to fatal accidents, says state police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin.

Comm Noor Hisam said that the areas identified included the traffic light junction along Jalan Ipoh-Lumut in Bandar Universiti, Seri Iskandar; traffic light junction near the Slim River toll interchange and at KM16 Jalan Teluk Intan-Hutan Melintang.

He said officers would be deployed to monitor these areas.

"We will also have ongoing patrols at all these locations.

"We want to ensure the presence of the traffic police which the public can see at all times," he said, adding that speed-capture cameras will be used.

He said this after launching the state-level Ops Selamat 24 in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations at Terminal Amanjaya here on Friday (March 28).

As for hot spots, or areas with high accident cases, Comm Noor Hisam said there were 43 of these locations.

"Hot spots usually have high traffic volume.

"We expect congestion to be between 20 and 30% higher compared to normal and non-festive periods," he said, adding that about 3 million vehicles are expected to ply the highways and federal roads in the state.

"I urge all motorists to plan their journey ahead of time and to ensure their vehicles are in roadworthy conditions," he added.
