PM to hold Madani Aidilfitri celebrations in eight states

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will continue holding Madani Aidilfitri celebrations in several states this year,

"Just like last year, the Madani Aidilfitri celebration ceremony will be jointly organised by the Federal and state governments," said Anwar's senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah during the daily briefing from the Prime Minister's Office on Thursday (March 27).

He said the first would be held in Melaka on April 5, which will also be the national-level celebration, followed by Selangor (April 6), Pahang (April 11), Kelantan and Penang (April 12), Sarawak (April 19), Perak (April 25) and Perlis (April 27).

"This event is an important platform to ease race and religious tensions and be respectful while celebrating the differences," he said.

Earlier, the Prime Minister attended the groundbreaking ceremony for Masjid Madani on Jalan Munshi Abdullah in Kuala Lumpur.

Anwar said he hoped the mosque would be the local community centre for local Muslims and city folk.

He hoped the harmony among races in the country would be maintained as well as the unity and the friendship among those from different backgrounds.

He also visited a supermarket in Subang Jaya to see the implementation of the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme.

Anwar expressed his appreciation to private companies, enforcement authorities and ministries involved in the efforts to control the prices of goods in the market.
