TNB activates technical, disaster squads ahead of potential K'tan floods

PETALING JAYA: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has activated its technical and disaster preparedness squads ahead of potential floods hitting Kelantan.

This comes after the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre issued a flood alert lasting until Monday (March 24) for the state.

In a notice, TNB said the teams have been activated to ensure safe electricity supply there.

“We remind the public to always prioritise safety and cooperate with related agencies. If a flood occurs, the electricity supply in the affected areas may be cut temporarily for everyone’s safety,” it said on Sunday (March 23).

TNB also advised the public to avoid flooded areas and be careful around electrical appliances.

“Adhere to safety and evacuation orders,” it added.

It reminded those facing electric supply issues to contact the TNB Careline at 15454 or reach out through TNB Careline's social media platforms or email tnbcareline@tnb.com.my.

According to the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, the areas possibly affected by floods in Kelantan are Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Baru, Bachok, Machang and Pasir Puteh.

As of 8pm Sunday (March 23), 5,128 victims have been displaced by natural disasters across Johor, Sarawak and Sabah.

There are currently 4,132 flood victims in Johor, 457 in Sarawak and 304 in Sabah.

In Sarawak, 83 victims across Sibu and Miri have been displaced due to landslides with another 152 displaced due to a fire in Sebauh.
