KUCHING: Sarawak will explore opportunities to collaborate with New South Wales, Australia on renewable energy and sustainability, leveraging the strengths of both regions in pursuing a green future.
Several areas of cooperation were discussed in a courtesy visit between New South Wales senior trade commissioner Andrew James Parker and Sarawak Deputy Energy and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni on Tuesday (March 18).

These include developing large-scale renewable energy projects, exchanging expertise in energy storage technologies, and promoting green technology innovation.
"In particular, both sides expressed interest in exploring opportunities for joint ventures, investments and research partnerships in the green energy sector," Dr Hazland said in a statement on Wednesday (March 19).
During the meeting, Parker conveyed New South Wales' keen interest in strengthening its relationship with Sarawak, particularly in renewable energy and environmental sustainability.

"We recognise Sarawak's potential in renewable energy, particularly in hydropower, and we see opportunities for collaboration.
"New South Wales, with its capabilities in green technologies, is eager to partner with Sarawak in advancing sustainable energy initiatives," he said.
Dr Hazland said Sarawak's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and transitioning to a low-carbon economy aligned with New South Wales' vision of fostering innovation in clean energy solutions.
He said Sarawak, with its potential in hydropower, solar energy and biomass, was positioning itself as a key player in Asean's energy transition.

"This meeting marks an important step towards building stronger ties between New South Wales and Sarawak, particularly in the realm of green energy, where the two regions can combine their respective strengths.
"Sarawak’s abundant natural resources, coupled with New South Wales’ cutting-edge green technologies, provide a solid foundation for a partnership that could significantly contribute to sustainable energy goals both regionally and globally," he said.
The meeting was also attended by representatives from Sarawak Energy Bhd, Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) and the Natural Resources and Environment Board, along with Sarawak-Australia Business Chamber president Rodger Chan and his team.
