Bangladeshi 'cricket team' denied entry, cooked-up tournament exposed as fake

PETALING JAYA: A group of Bangladeshis claiming to be a cricket team have been denied entry into the country after the Malaysian Control and Border Protection Agency (AKPS) found that the tournament they were here for did not exist.

AKPS said 15 men were stopped from entering the country at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Monday (March 17).

They claimed to be a cricket team and were entering the country for a competition.

"Upon further investigation, it was found that the letter, allegedly issued by the 'Penang Cricket Association', was fake. There were no scheduled cricket competition from March 21 to 23 as claimed," read the AKPS statement on Tuesday (March 18).

It added that the so-called sponsor for the competition was called in as guarantor.

"However when the 'guarantor' arrived they could not provide information about the competition and claimed they were just representing the 'sponsor company'.

"It is possible that the group is part of a syndicate and was issued a 'Not To Land 'order.

"AKPS warns that strict action will be taken on any individual or syndicate that misuse sports visas for illegal employment or human trafficking," it said.
