Bung Moktar always stood firm by his principles, says Zambry

PETALING JAYA: Condolences and tributes have poured in for Sabah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who passed away at 1.46am on Friday (Dec 5).

Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said Bung Moktar was a leader, friend and someone who always stood firm in defending his principles.

"He was always at the heart of a struggle, including in his final moments in the recent Sabah state election.

"Thank you for all your services, sacrifices and contributions to the people, the state of Sabah and the country," said the Higher Education Minister on his Facebook page.

Bung Moktar, who was Kinabatangan MP, died at a private hospital in Kota Kinabalu after being admitted for severe lung infection. He was 66.

He had just been elected as the Lamag assemblyman in the Sabah election on Nov 29.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said Bung Moktar was a firm, outspoken and courageous person.

"Despite any differences that may have existed, his passing reminds us of the sacrifice of a person who tirelessly devoted his energy and life to serving the people.

"I always respect Bung Moktar as a political veteran who was firm, outspoken and courageous in his struggle," said the Lembah Pantai MP.
