Sabah mourns the passing of Bung Moktar


KOTA KINABALU: The leaders and people of Sabah are in mourning this morning over the demise of Kinabatangan Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who was also the Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman, a much-beloved leader.

Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin, who is also a member of the Umno Supreme Council, said he was saddened by the loss of a leader who had contributed greatly to Sabah Umno, and that personally, the late Bung Moktar was very close to his own political journey. 

"May his whole family continue to be patient with Allah’s will. Let’s all pray that his soul is blessed and placed among the righteous. Al-Fatihah,” he posted on Facebook this morning.

Bung Moktar passed away at a private hospital here at 1.46am. He was 66.

Sabah Umno Election Department director Jeffery Nor Mohamad, who is also the Putatan Umno Division chief, was also saddened by Bung Moktar’s demise, adding that he last saw Bung Moktar when he visited him at the hospital at 1.30am today.

"He taught me a lot about the spirit of struggle. Allah SWT loves him more. I am very sad; I managed to speak to him on the phone. Insya-Allah, I remember his advice,” he said.

Sabah Umno treasurer Datuk Seri Salleh Keruak said Bung Moktar was a figure who contributed greatly, especially in Sabah’s political arena and the state’s development.

"His passing is a great loss to the community and the state. May Allah SWT bless his soul and place him among the righteous, and grant him heaven as his resting place,” he said.

State Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Mohammad Yusof Apdal, who is also the Lahad Datu MP from Parti Warisan, also expressed his condolences to the family, relatives and acquaintances on the demise of Bung Moktar.

Tempasuk state assemblyman Datuk Mohd Arsad Bistari from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) also conveyed his condolences to Bung Moktar’s family and prayed that he be placed among the righteous. - Bernama
