Curbing religious insults starts with education

PENDANG: Religious teachers should help educate society to refrain from committing acts that insult any religion, it was pointed out.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar (pic) said this was because of the great trust placed on them.

“If pondok teachers can play their role in advising the community to refrain from insulting any religion, God willing, we can have peace in our country,” he said after a religious event held at the Pondok Mustaq Sungai Jagong here on Saturday, Bernama reported.

Mohd Na’im said officials will cooperate with the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to impose strict action against those ridiculing Islam.

He urged Muslims and non-Muslims to work together in fostering unity and harmony while avoiding any form of religious insult.

“If chaos erupts due to religious insults and issues, it benefits no one. We are also concerned that certain individuals may take advantage of the situation to incite unrest and discord in society,” he added.

Earlier, the minister called on Islamic religious teachers to promote the Membangun Malaysia Madani message and ensure their dakwah (Islamic propagation) aligned with the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah principles.
