Teresa, Hui Ying out of top 30 new DAP CEC line-up

PETALING JAYA: Teresa Kok has failed to maintain her seat in the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) after the end of the party’s election on Sunday (Mar 16).

The now former DAP vice-chairman only managed to obtain 1,331 votes, causing her to fall out of the top 30 of the CEC as Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham snagged the 30th and final spot with 1,584 votes.

The Seputeh MP’s fall from the party’s top ranks is significant as she earned fewer votes compared to the party's previous election polls in 2022 where she ranked fourth with 1,373 votes.

“I will accept the judgement of the party's delegates.

“I believe the corruption case of my former aid definitely had some effect on this election, but I believe other factors also played a role.

“Regardless, I am still a MP and party member and I intend to continue doing my duties diligently for my constituency and as a member of parliament,” she told reporters after the announcement of the CEC election polls.

Another key figure who has fallen out of the CEC is Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, who got 1,573 votes during the party election polls.

Lim previously got 15th spot in the previous 2022 party polls with 1,155 votes.

Lim was similarly accepting of the poll results, adding that she will accept her loss as a chance to further grow.

“Everyone has to go through a similar growth process and this loss is good in its own way, a good thing for me to reflect on.

“As for whether this will affect my ministry position, I will leave it up to the party and its new leadership to decide,” she told reporters after the poll results announcement.
